We appreciate you thinking of offering us items and welcome the opportunity see whether they would be a useful addition to our collections.

We can consider items via email if you can send us any information you have about the object(s) and a photograph always helps too.

We can't accept everything that is offered to us, even in normal circumstances. All offers of donation are considered using our Collections Development Policy to guide us. Things we consider are: do we have one already?; relevance to Leicestershire people and places; the condition of the object; size- we might not have space for it!; what stories can it help us to tell and does it fill a gap in our collections? You can read more about the history of collecting and our acquisitions policy on the Leicestershire Museum Collections website.

We cannot guarantee that an item will go on display in one of our museums, or that it will go on permanent display. Our collections are mainly housed at our Collections Resources Centre, which is open to the public via appointment where they can be viewed and studied. We also try to use them in exhibitions and displays at our museum sites; by lending things to other accredited museums and community organisations as well as featuring them on our websites and social media channels.

We will always try to suggest an alternative if we cannot accept your offer.
