Pilgrim flasks are also known as ampulla and were used to contain holy water from Christian shrines. They were purchased by pilgrims and taken home. This one has a design which tells us it was produced for the Abbey of St Mary and St Modwen, Burton-on-Trent.

This silver-gilt ring depicts three figures, the central male saint is bearded and is probably St John the Evangelist. He is flanked by two other saints who are possibly female.

Copper alloy buckle which would have attached to the end of a strap.

Copper alloy key.

Lead roundel which was possibly the lid of a container for official seals or weights. One side is plain and the other bears the arms of France and England. Round the outside there are alternating suns and roses (the symbol of the House of York).

Decorated bone apple scoop or corer. Decorated with incised criss-cross pattern.

Copper alloy ewer or jug spout in the form of a dog.

Gold ring with an iron setting. There are two lion heads either side of the setting. Letters are inscribed around the ring but they meaningless suggesting the engraver was illiterate.

Copper alloy intaglio finger ring showing a standing figure holding what appears to be a spear. Reputedly found at the same time as the Bronze Age Welby Hoard in 1875.

These windows were originally in the East and West windows of the North aisle of St Mary's Church, Garthorpe. The glass was considered at risk of damage so the Churches Conservation Trust arranged for them to be loaned to the Museum to ensure preservation.

The figures represent St Mary the Virgin carrying a lily and St John the Evangelist carrying a book.

Glass was rare and expensive until modern times and these designs were created by drawing a background pattern using paint as well as coloured glass.
